The American Folk Art Museum mourns the loss of Fred Siegmund, who passed away on November 23, 2018. Fred, with his wife of 59 years, Joanne, was a devoted supporter of the museum, as well as an avid collector of folk art. Both Fred and Joanne are members of the museum’s Council for Traditional Folk Art, and pieces from their collection will be in the museum’s upcoming exhibition, Made in New York City: The Business of Folk Art, which opens on March 19, 2019. A Brooklyn native, Fred was a 1954 graduate of Yale Law School, and he practiced law until retirement at age 88. In addition to his love of folk art, he was a supporter of Ben-Gurion University. We extend our sympathy to Joanne, to his daughters and their spouses, to his six wonderful grandchildren, and to his many friends.
