John Dexter Weeden, known as “Jack” by all who knew him, passed away on March 7, 2019. Jack was the beloved partner of David L. Davies, who served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Folk Art Museum (AFAM) from 1990 through 2010. Together, the couple were collectors of folk art as well as generous benefactors to AFAM, giving it a bequest of $1 million when Davies died in 2012. They also gave AFAM weathervanes and other important works from their collection, including the Morris Hirshfield masterwork The Artist and His Model, painted in 1945. Jack Weeden will be remembered for his devotion to his partner as well as his kind and gentle nature.
