Ed Shapiro has served on the Board of Trustees of the American Folk Art Museum since 2023. He is currently a Senior Advisor at the Chertoff Group after recently completing more than thirty years as a Partner at Latham & Watkins LLP. While at Latham, Mr. Shapiro was lead trial counsel in dozens of forums (including state and federal courts in each of New York, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Minnesota, as well as administrative courts and arbitral forums such as the American Arbitration Association [AAA], the NASD, and the International Chamber of Commerce). Before that, from 1986-88, he was Assistant General Counsel of the Department of Defense.
Mr. Shapiro serves on the boards of entities that have protected their security clearance through mitigation agreements with the US government, and currently chairs Government Security Committees for two such companies. He recently completed service on the Governing Board of the National Cathedral School (member, Executive Committee, and chair, Audit Committee), and sits on the Washington Regional Board of the American Jewish Committee. He is also a past Chair of the American Bar Association Committee on Contracting with National Security Requirements. Mr. Shapiro received his AB from Princeton University and his JD from Harvard Law School.
