The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded the American Folk Art Museum a grant to support an innovative Museum Careers Internship Program in partnership with LaGuardia Community College. The program was designed to create a pipeline of museum professionals from diverse backgrounds. Each year, eight students in the humanities department from the college are given an opportunity to participate in a paid year-long program that includes the study of folk art, project-based research, and an internship in one of the museum’s departments. The grant, which is in the amount of $315,000 over a three-year period (with additional funding from New York Community Trust), will provide major support for this program.
