AFAM Receives National Endowment for the Humanities CARES Grant

The American Folk Art Museum (AFAM) is honored to have received a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grant through the NEH CARES program. NEH CARES emergency relief grants provide funding to cultural nonprofits to support a range of humanities activities across the fields of education, preservation and access, public programming, digital humanities, and scholarly research through December 31, 2020.

As the museum approaches its 60th Anniversary in 2021, this grant will provide support for remote public programming, digital infrastructure upgrades, and strategic planning. With the NEH’s support, AFAM will continue its work to be an inclusive, diverse, accessible, and equitable museum that presents self-taught art across time and place.

Stay tuned for more updates on the exciting projects we will embark upon with the support of the NEH.

About the American Folk Art Museum

Since 1961, the American Folk Art Museum has been the leading institution shaping the understanding of art by the self-taught through its exhibitions, publications, and educational programs. As a center of scholarship, it showcases the creativity of individuals whose singular talents have been refined through personal experience rather than formal artistic training. Its collection includes more than eight thousand works of art from four centuries and nearly every continent—from compelling portraits and dazzling quilts to powerful works by living artists in a variety of mediums.
