The American Folk Art Museum is grateful to The New York Times in that the recent article by Holland Cotter, “Will the Renovated MoMA Let Folk Art Back In?,” recognizes and appreciates the vital role that the museum has served in collecting, exhibiting, and promoting the work of self-taught artists from the eighteenth through the twenty-first centuries.
The American Folk Art Museum was established nearly 60 years ago. We continue to present engaging exhibitions at our Lincoln Square museum in Manhattan, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and our Self-Taught Genius Gallery in Long Island City, Queens. Admission to both locations is always free. Consistent with our mission to “get self-taught art out there,” we proudly collaborate with other institutions across the country and around the world to present what is most compelling in the field.
