On Saturday, August 6, the American Folk Art Museum (AFAM) will participate in Summer Streets 2016, an event organized by the NYC Department of Transportation that closes nearly 7 miles of New York streets to all vehicles. The car-free streets – from East 72nd & Park Avenue down to Foley Square in Manhattan – are open to play, bike, run, and have fun. Summer Streets 2016 takes place the first 3 Saturdays in August, from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm.
On the morning of August 6, AFAM will have a family Summer Streets 2016 event at Rudin Park (East 51st Street at Park Ave.) from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm. Participants will handle objects from the Museum’s Touch Collection, and receive materials to create their own quilt-inspired, two dimensional artwork, focusing on shape, pattern, and color. Museum staff will also be present to answer questions about the museum’s public programming for families, students, and adults.
