Families and Folk Art: Found Materials & Art Environments

Included in the exhibition Memory Palaces: Inside the Collection of Audrey B. Heckler are a number of mystical art environments and layered sculptures created with found materials (feathers, glitter, transistor radios, alarm clocks, typewriter pieces). Participants will discuss some of the spectacular artworks on view, then return to the studio to tinker with a variety of materials and create pieces that respond to the art environments.

Families and Folk Art introduces children ages 4 to 12 and their accompanying adults to folk art through interactive discussion-based tours in the galleries followed by hands-on artmaking activities inspired by objects in the museum. Space is limited; registration required. More info: 212. 265. 1040, ext. 381, or familyprograms@folkartmuseum.org

Families and Folk Art is supported by the estate of Marlene Gordon.
