Gallery Talk: New Perspectives with Teaching Fellows

This gallery tour will focus on the current exhibitions John Dunkley: Neither Day nor Night and Paa Joe: Gates of No Return, through a close investigation of selected works by artists who use coded iconography and architecture to reveal layered individual and collective memories, allowing deeper histories to emerge. Through deliberate handling of color, composition, and materiality, both artists employ a visual clandestinity that attracts and invites the viewer into an intimate and dark history.

New Perspectives tours are led by the American Folk Art Museum Teaching Fellow, an emerging scholar in art education, art history, or a related field. The topics of the tours are based on the fellow’s ongoing research and are designed to engage participants in focused examinations of selected objects. The current American Folk Art Museum Teaching Fellow is Carianna Arredondo, a doctoral student in the Department of Art and Art Education at Teachers College, Columbia University.
