Brazilian musicians Anne Boccato (voice), Vinícius Gomes (guitar), and Rogério Boccato (percussion) join forces to bring to life a concert inspired by Madalena Santos Reinbolt’s life and art. By following her trajectory from Bahía to Rio de Janeiro, the trio invites us along a musical journey through Brazil’s rich traditions, weaving together familiar themes like migration, racism, resilience, and the “Saudade” (nostalgia/longing) Madalena infused into her evocative works.

Anne Boccato is a vocalist, percussionist, pianist, storyteller and educator born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil. She studied jazz piano at the State University of New York – Purchase College, and began pursuing voice when an injury kept her from playing piano for some time. Through a lengthy rehabilitation process, Anne discovered her passion for “musical embodiment,” bringing it to bear on all aspects of her playing and singing. She loves creating strong, energetic grooves while maintaining a feeling of ease and gentle strength, no matter how complex the music may seem on paper. Anne’s aim in all she does is to connect people to themselves and to each other through her art; be it through songs, stories or anything in between. Her love of folklore and languages is only matched by her love of watching her music students go “aha!” and smile with satisfaction. When she’s not performing, writing or teaching, Anne can be found giving workshops on time management, a passion born out of years of struggle and research on how to make her freelancer’s life into one of balance and joyful creation.

São Paulo-born and New York-based guitarist/composer Vinícius Gomes explores the dialogue between modern jazz and Brazilian music, as evidenced by his debut albums, “Resiliência” (2017-Blackstream), “Changes” (2020-FreshSound), in collaboration with Spanish saxophonist Santi De la Rubia featuring drummer Jorge Rossy and bassist Doug Weiss and the most recent release “HOME” (2022-Greenleaf) in duo with Korean singer Song Yi Jeon. Vinicius has performed with his own projects and as a collaborator in world-class venues such as Dizzy’s Club (NY), Smalls (NY), Jazz Gallery (NY), Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Bellas Artes (Mexico City), National Sawdust (NY), Blue Note (NY), Duc Des Lombards (Paris), Sunset Sunside (Paris), JazzStation (Brussels), B-Flat (Berlin), Zigzag (Berlin) Bird’s Eye (Basel), Porgy And Bess (Vienna), and others.

Brazilian percussionist and educator Rogério Boccato performs with and has recorded in projects led by some of today’s leading jazz artists, among them Maria Schneider, John Patitucci, Fred Hersch, Brian Blade, Kurt Elling, Danilo Perez, Renee Rosnes, and many others. He has also collaborated with top-ranking Brazilian artists, such as Toninho Horta, Moacir Santos, Zé Renato and Vinicius Cantuária. He is featured on three Grammy-award winning albums: Kurt Elling & Danilo Perez‘s “Secrets Are The Best Stories“, “The Thompson Fields”, with the Maria Schneider Orchestra, and on Billy Childs’  “Rebirth”. He is also featured on multiple Grammy-nominated albums, among them: Kenny Garrett’s “Beyond The Wall”, John Patitucci‘s “Remembrance“ (alongside Joe Lovano and Brian Blade), and on Alan Ferber’s “Jigsaw“. As a longtime member of the Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo, Rogério Boccato has played with Antônio Carlos Jobim, Hermeto Pascoal, Milton Nascimento, Egberto Gismonti, João Bosco, Joe Zawinul, among many others.

Rogério Boccato is a faculty member of the Manhattan School of Music NYU and of the Percussion department of The Hartt School (University of Hartford) teaching Brazilian Music and the Ritmica method.
