Families are invited to explore the exhibition Marvels of My Own Inventiveness, which features an immersive viewing of paintings by five contemporary Black artists in the Museum’s collection: Leonard Daley, Claude Lawrence, J.B. Murray, Mary T. Smith, and Purvis Young. By positioning these artists in conversation with one another, the exhibition explores the artistic self-expression of Black makers working in and around abstraction.
Participants will learn about select artworks through a guided discussion, then create their own artistic responses together.
Families and Folk Art introduces children ages 4 to 12 and their accompanying adults to folk art through interactive conversation-based tours in the galleries followed by hands-on artmaking activities inspired by objects in the museum.
This program is free, but space is limited. To register, please contact 212. 265. 1040, ext. 381, or familyprograms@folkartmuseum.org.
