Families and Folk Art is held the first Saturday of every month. This program introduces children ages 4 to 12 and their accompanying adults to folk art through interactive discussion-based tours in the galleries followed by hands-on artmaking activities inspired by objects in the museum. Museum admission is always free. Space is limited; registration required.

Inspiring Intarsia

Participants will learn about a range of quilting techniques, including intarsia—a method of piecing wool to create highly detailed pictorial scenes. After a guided gallery discussion, families will create their own narrative designs, using a modified intarsia technique. The quilts featured in the exhibition War and Pieced: The Annette Gero Collection of Quilts from Military Fabrics were created by soldiers, sailors, and tailors, repurposing the fabric from military uniforms. We ask that program participants bring in one small swatch of fabric from home to further personalize their own piece. We will also have a selection of fabric to choose from.
