In this interactive and intergenerational program, families will explore pieced quilts in the exhibition An Ecology of Quilts: The Natural History of American Textiles, and then work together to stitch their own quilt square. Participants are encouraged to bring from home a piece of fabric that is meaningful to them—an t-shirt they’ve outgrown, a baby onesie, a tablecloth stained with a lovingly prepared meal—to incorporate into their quilt square.
Families and Folk Art introduces children ages 4 to 12 and their accompanying adults to folk art through interactive discussion followed by hands-on art making activities inspired by objects in the museum.
