The museum invites you to experience the critically acclaimed Wooster Group’s artistic reflection on Shaker music, Early Shaker Spirituals: A Record Album Interpretation. Called “austere and profoundly affecting” by Ben Brantley of the New York Times, the production features an outstanding cast, including the Oscar-winning actress Frances McDormand.
Join fellow art-lovers for a special performance on May 1 and enjoy an exclusive post-performance discussion with director Kate Valk. Composed of song, spoken word, and dance, Early Shaker Spirituals is based on a 1976 LP of Shaker hymns, marches, anthems, and testimony recorded by Sister R. Mildred Barker and the sisters of the Shaker community in Sabbathday Lake, Maine.
