Cuba, though only ninety miles from the United States, remains a mystery to most Americans. Thanks to a special license granted to the American Folk Art Museum by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the museum invites you to experience this enigmatic island on its program The Art and Architecture of Cuba: An Insider’s View.

This unique, inclusive trip is designed exclusively for the American Folk Art Museum. Guests will spend eight days and seven nights at Hotel Saratoga on the edge of historic Old Havana, February 28 through March 7, 2015. Highlights include a private after-hours visit and reception at the Ceramics Museum; a visit with a self-taught muralist in his studio; a visit to the Museum of Junk, an outdoor art environment by a self-taught artist; and an exploration of the fishing village of Jaimanitas, where artist José Fuster has decorated more than eighty houses with ornate murals and domes. There will be an overnight excursion to the island’s north coast, where guests will explore Matanzas, the “Athens of Cuba,” meet more artists, and visit artist studios and workshops in nearby Cardenas and Varadero.
