In Remembrance of Barbara W. Cate

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of former Board of Trustees member Barbara W. Cate on February 4, 2017. A resident of Maplewood, New Jersey, Barbara was an emeritus professor of art history at Seton Hall University and cofounder of their master of arts program in museum professions. She was also an ardent supporter of the American Folk Art Museum. As founding director of the museum’s Folk Art Institute, Barbara created a unique program devoted to American folk art studies. Her generosity and guidance played an important role in the museum’s history, and we will miss her dearly. We extend our sympathies to her husband, Tracy Cate, and her children, extended family, and many friends.
